Anna Seymour
Anna Seymour is a Deaf Australian-born dance artist, actress, and producer based in London.
Anna trained in contemporary dance at Deakin University in Melbourne and has worked with different choreographers and companies in Australia and the UK as well as creating her own work.
Anna moved to London in 2020 to dance with Candoco Dance Company, an international dance company of disabled and non-disabled dancers. With Candoco, she has performed and toured the company’s repertory in the UK, Europe, America and the UAE. Dance works include Set and Reset/Reset by Trisha Brown Company, Face In by Yasmeen Godder and Last Shelter by Jeanine Durning.
Anna performed the lead role for The Promise, a Deafinitely Theatre / Lyric Hammersmith / Birmingham Rep co-production which toured in Birmingham, Newcastle, Manchester and London. Not long after, Anna played a supporting actress role in a thriller feature film RETREAT, directed by Ted Evans. Anna’s previous acting credentials include The Vagina Monologues with Deafinitely Theatre (2023), Get Krack!n, a comedy TV series with ABC TV (2018) and Black is The Colour with Deafferent Theatre (2016) which earnt her a Green Room Award nomination for Best Performer in Independent Theatre.
One of Anna’s works, SPIN, an interactive dance rave performance event guided by three Deaf hosts and a DJ, won a Melbourne Fringe Award in 2018 and received a Melbourne Fringe commission to adapt SPIN for Deaf/HOH and CODA children and their families leading to Mini SPIN. Both works have made a comeback and have enjoyed performances at Theaterformen Festival in Hannover, Germany and Norwich Deaf Festival, UK in 2023 as well as the 2024 Sydney Festival and Ballet of the Masses Festival in Berlin.
Anna collaborates widely with artists across different art-forms including her 7-story high mural by Guido van Helten in Melbourne and regularly teaches and facilitates dance workshops for different ages and abilities.
Anna is also a keen hiker, an aspiring martial arts fighter (and dreams of being a stuntwoman someday!) and is fluent in Australian Sign Language and British Sign Language as well as English.
