Gwyn Emberton
Gwyn has been working in dance for over 25 years as a choreographer, performer, producer, teacher and dramaturg, working across the UK and internationally. Originally from Montgomery, a small town in Mid Wales, he is passionate about sharing dance with those who don’t expect it and about developing the future dance artists from Wales.
Gwyn’s previous works for Jones the Dance (formerly Gwyn Emberton Dance) include My People, Shadow of a Quiet Society and Raft which toured widely across Wales and the UK. His solo work Of the Earth, from where I came was presented across Europe, the Middle East, as part of Dance Roads and at British Dance Edition. In 2024 he created Y Dewis, Jones the Dance’s most ambitious work to date, an immersive dance film and live experience that toured nationally to rural and coastal towns throughout Wales.
Gwyn is one third of dance collective Light, Ladd and Emberton, co-performing, directing and writing works such as the turbulent story of the wife of Dylan Thomas in Caitlin, the anarchic rebellious silent disco experience of Owain Glyndwr Silent Disco, and in new project Climate Chaos.
Gwyn has been a lead collaborator with iCoDaCo since 2014 and continues to initiate and facilitate international projects between Wales, Sweden and beyond.
Throughout his career, Gwyn has taught extensively at all levels from companies, to leading conservatoires to summer schools in mid Wales and right across the globe. He has lead several dance training programmes such as at University of Wales Trinity Saint David and Hackney Community College.
Gwyn is a regular teacher and Rehearsal Director for Skånes Dansteater and created Indigo Flamingo, an immersive dance experience with Malmö’s LGBTQIA+ community. Gwyn is also working with SDT on the Europe Beyond Access project.
