Ruben Chi

Ruben Chi is an Arnhem-based movement artist and choreographer with an origin and essence in hip hop culture. That origin is always the starting point, from which he constantly seeks to break through barriers: between genres, cultures and disciplines. In this way he moves organically between the dance battle world and the theatre, between the international commercial circuit and the local community. 

Chi & Roché Apinsa are co-founders of the well-known and Amsterdam based Ghetto Funk Collective. That spreads Funk culture around the world in the current zeitgeist. He has won the international dance competition Juste Debout Holland five times in a row and is also the winner of the famous Summer Dance Forever festival. He is a resident choreographer for Arnhem based production house Theater aan de Rijn & Arnhem based company Introdans. As the artistic director of SoulCypher, Chi is building a sustainable hip-hop (dance) community in his city Arnhem through cultural productions and a yearly annual festival.
